Since the return of collegiate tennis to Carrollton and the University of West Georgia in 2011, there have been two head coaches to guide the program. Claire Mowling was the first coach in the return, and since the summer of 2012, Michael Coleman has been at the helm of the program.Â

Coleman was no stranger to UWG, having graduated from West Georgia in 1992. Upon graduation, he moved across the street, literally, to Sunset Hills Country Club. He continues to serve there as the club's director of tennis.
Since taking over the program, Coleman has continued to nurture and grow the program into the best season thus far in the spring of 2020. Newcomer and junior college transfer Camille Portalier, combined with a solid roster of returning talent, won three consecutive matches to open the season that ended up being shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Â

Coleman's resume is very impressive. Last year he was voted U.S. Tennis Association Georgia Tennis Pro of the Year. Also, he is president of the West Georgia Tennis Association, and co-founded the West Georgia USTA Junior League. The junior program has produced many outstanding players, including many who have excelled at the collegiate level.

A native of Lawrenceville, Coleman played two seasons at Young Harris, before moving to West Georgia to complete his undergraduate degree.
