CARROLLTON, Ga. - The third week of the 2020 Virtual WESTPY Awards begins with the announcement of the Men's Newcomer of the Year on May 15, 2020. This award goes to the individual male athlete who had an impact on the success of West Georgia athletics in their first year in Carrollton. This year's awards are presented by Advantage Office Solutions and the Georgia Army National Guard. Today's award goes to John Michael McRae from the baseball program. 

McRae played in 19 of the Wolves' 20 games in a season that was shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Of those 19 games, he started in 18 of them, playing right field and serving as the leadoff hitter. He hit .303 for the season with seven doubles, a home run, 21 runs scored and 11 RBI. He was tied for second with one other player in runs scored in the Gulf South Conference and was third in the league in doubles.
