CARROLLTON, Ga. - The 2020 Virtual WESTPY Awards closes the fifth week of announcements on June 5, 2020 by awarding the Alpha for the Georgia Army National Guard Men's Athlete of the Year. This year's honor for the top male athlete goes to Seth Brown-Carter of the men's basketball program. Brown-Carter played in 28 games as a junior in the 2019-20 season, starting 27 games and averaging 27.4 minutes per game. He was fifth in the Gulf South Conference in scoring on the year, averaging 16.5 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field. That includes shooting 37.5 percent from three-point range, earning him Second Team All-Gulf South Conference honors for the year.Â
In 23 of his 28 starts on the year, Brown-Carter scored in double-figures, but he saved the best for the final stretch run. In the last nine games of the year, including a season-high 29 against Christian Brothers in The Coliseum on February 1. That night, he was 11-of-12 from the free-throw line, which was part of his best stat category of the season. Brown-Carter led the GSC in free-throw shooting percentage, hitting 85 percent on the year from the charity stripe.Â
