Carrollton, GA - The Valdosta State Blazers handed a tough loss to the West Georgia Wolves on Saturday afternoon, as the Wolves fell by a 42-7 count at University Stadium on Homecoming.

The Blazers grabbed the momentum early, as VSU had a successful onside kick on the opening kickoff. The UWG defense rose to the occasion, holding Valdosta State to a three-and-out, giving the ball to the offense.

Junior quarterback #Austin Trainor# led the Wolves on a march that included four first downs, but the UWG offense stalled at the VSU 27. The Wolves took a penalty and elected to punt. #Cornelius Winters# kept the ensuing #Davis Brackett# punt from reaching the end zone and VSU took over on their own one yard line.

After the two teams traded punts. the Blazers took over at their own 19. VSU drove down the field, scoring on a pass from Cayden Cochran to Gerald Ford for the first score of the game.  It was the first of 21 second quarter points, as the Blazers took control of the game heading into the break.

West Georgia stuggled to move the ball on the VSU defense on the afternoon, amassing 217 yards of offense while the Blazers racked up more the 500 total yards. The Wolves' lone score came on a five-yard run from #Quan Jones# late in the contest. 

The Wolves fall to 2-3 on the year and the Blazers move to 4-2. West Georgia continues Gulf South Conference play next week, taking on Delta State in Cleveland, MS next Saturday.
