UWG Closes season with loss to #7 Mustangs

Carrollton, GA - The 2012 football season came to a close for the West Georgia Wolves in Wichita Falls, Texas on Saturday afternoon as the Wolves fell 35-17 to the 7th-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs.

The Wolves moved the ball well on the newly crowned Lone Star Conference champions, racking up 187 yards on the ground and 149 yards through the air while scoring a pair of second-half touchdowns. But UWG had trouble stopping the Mustangs on the ground, as Midwestern State rushed for 470 yards in the contest.

West Georgia took the first drive of the game and drove deep into Mustang territory, but a penalty took the Wolves out of field goal range and forced a punt. Midwestern State countered with 21 first-half points, taking a commanding 21-3 lead into the locker room at the break.

MSU scored the first touchdown of the second half and the Wolves responded with an 11-play, 62-yard drive that resulted in an 11-yard touchdown run for sophomore back #Seth Hinsley#.

Late in the third quarter, the Wolves made the game interesting when #Trenton Edwards# forced a fumble at midfield, which was picked up by senior #Juan Pickett#. The UWG offense took full advantage, going 50 yards in 11 plays and quarterback #Austin Trainor# plunged in from two yards out, making the score 28-17.

After a missed field goal from Midwestern State in gale force winds, the Wolves drove back down to inside the Mustang 10 before the drive stalled. With less than four minutes left, a #Davis Brackett# field goal attempt went awry, spoiling the Wolves' final opportunity to score. MSU closed the scoring out five plays later with a 31-yard touchdown run from Chauncey Harris.

Hinsley led the way with 15 carries for 86 yards in the game and a touchdown. #David Bailey# had 14 carries for 77 yards and Trainor added 12 rushes for 20 yards and a score. #Bobby Burum# had four receptions for 48 yards to lead the UWG effort through the air.
