Box Score Carrollton, GA - With two weeks to go in the 2014 regular season, if there were any doubt as to the strength of the Gulf South Conference, it was quieted with the most recent Super Region 2 rankings. West Georgia remained in the sixth spot in the second released ranking and this week's opponent for UWG entered the regional poll for the first time this year, as Florida Tech was 10th in Monday's release.
The Wolves and Panthers make five Gulf South Conference squads in this week's rankings, as the top conference in Division II continues to dominate Super Region 2, which includes the GSC, the South Atlantic Conference and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Lenoir Rhyne jumped into the top spot after previous No. 1 North Alabama fell this past weekend at Delta State. UNA fell to third in the rankings behind the Bears and DSU, which jumped one spot to second. Tuskegee, Valdosta State and West Georgia maintained their spots in the poll at fourth, fifth and sixth, but Carson-Newman, which lost to Lenoir Rhyne, fell from seventh to eighth in this week's ranking.
Albany State out of the SIAC switched spots with Carson-Newman this week while Miles held on to the ninth spot in the poll. Fort Valley State fell out of the rankings after a loss to Morehouse this past weekend, leaving a spot open for Florida Tech. The Panthers, a team that has been playing competition football for just two years, enters the regional ranking ahead of a GSC-TV Live Game of the Week matchup with West Georgia at Unviersity Stadium this Saturday at 2 p.m.
