Football Preview: The Florida Tech Game

Carrollton, GA - For the second time in three weeks, major NCAA Division II Super Region 2 playoff implications are on the line for the West Georgia Wolves in the GSC-TV Live Game of the Week, as the Wolves play host to Florida Tech on Ra-Lin Field at University Stadium on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.

* The Wolves enter the week as the 6th-ranked team in the region with a solid shot a making the playoffs, but standing in the way is the second-year program from Florida Tech, which earned their first-ever regional ranking this week, entering the Super Region 2 rankings in 10th place. UWG beat Mississippi College by a 55-14 score last week, while the Panthers won on a last-second pass at Short- er, 34-30.

* West Georgia is coached by Will Hall, who is in his first season at West Georgia. He has an overall record of 32-13 in his fourth year as a head coach. The head coach at Florida Tech is Steve Englehart, who is in his third year as coach of the Panthers with an 11-10 record.

* This week sets up another top-3 running back duel for this week in the GSC-TV Live Game of the Week. On the UWG side is Hinsley, who is third in the conference with 84.7 yards per game on the year. For Florida Tech is Trevor Sand, who leads the conference with 102.3 yards per game this season. * The matchup marks the first time this season that the Wolves have had back-to-back home games, following up on last week's lopsided victory over Mississippi College. The Panthers are making their second-straight trip to Georgia after their narrow victory over Shorter in Rome last week. .

* When Will Hall was hired at UWG, he told the West Georgia fans at the initial press conference that to become a championship program, the Wolves would need
to run the football. Last week, his offense rushed for 400 yards for just the third time in school history and first time since 1984. The Wolves lead the GSC with 267
yards per game on the ground.

* This makes the second-straight game between the Wolves and Panthers as the GSC-TV Live Game of the Week. Last year's Halloween matchup was on ESPN3 as well, as the Wolves came out on top 28-14 in that battle. Both teams have had one other televised matchup this season, with UWG falling two weeks ago to UNA and FIT losing to Delta State earlier this season.
