Wolves Win Final Game of the Decade

UWG holds lead, wins by 12 over AUM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - Seth Brown-Carter and Kadeim Jones combined for nine three-pointers on Saturday afternoon at the AUM Athletics Complex as the West Georgia Wolves snapped a three-game losing streak with an 89-77 victory over the Auburn Montgomery Warhawks in Gulf South Conference action.

The Wolves led from bell-to-bell in this one, building a double-digit lead in the first six minutes of the game against the Warhawks. This marks the seventh consecutive game that West Georgia has held a lead of 10 or more points in a game, but just the second victory in that span.

Brown-Carter paced the Wolves for the third-straight game, hitting 6-for-10 from three-point range en route to his third consecutive 20-point game, also achieving a season high in each of the three games. He went for 26 tonight after scoring 24 against Montevallo and 22 against North Georgia in the previous two contests.

West Georgia scored the game's first five points, with the first of Brown-Carter's three-pointers giving the Wolves a 5-0 lead. UWG continued to press in the opening minutes of the contest and a jumpshot from Keshawn Heard with 14:36 left in the first half gave the Wolves a 17-6 advantage. That did not stay for long, as the Warhawks went on an 11-2 run over the next three minutes to cut the UWG lead to 19-17.

The Wolves quickly responded, pushing their advantage back out to double-digits in the next four minutes and continued that run, opening up a 43-30 leading heading into the locker room at the break.

Auburn-Montgomery cut the lead to 11 early in the second half, but West Georgia pushed the lead right back out and until the final seconds of the game, the lead was never lower than 13 over the final 18 minutes of the contest. The lead was as much as 24 points in the second half, as a three-pointer from Brown-Carter with 3:09 left in the game pushed the advantage out to 85-61.

In addition to Brown-Carter's 26 points, Jones added 21 points on the night, followed by Kovi Tate and Karlos Odum, who each had 12 points in the contest. For Tate, it continued a streak of double-figure outputs in the scoring column, as he has had double-figures in every game this season. Oronte' Anderson was solid at the point, delivering on eight points and seven assists in the win.

West Georgia moves to 3-8 on the year and 1-2 in Gulf South Conference play while Auburn Montgomery falls to 6-6 and 1-3 against league competition. The Wolves will now be off for the holidays until after Christmas and will return to action on January 2, taking on Mississippi College on the road at 8:30 p.m. on that evening.
