UWG Men Grind Out Win over Christian Brothers

Seth Brown-Carter scores 29, Zabetakis Records double-double

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The West Georgia Wolves men's basketball team got a home win on Saturday, defeating the Christian Brothers Buccaneers 81-74 in Gulf South Conference play.

The Wolves shot 48 percent from the field on the day, making six three-pointers in their first home win of the season. The Wolves dominated points I the paint 40-26, and dominated the boards with 41 total rebounds to just 21 from CBU. West Georgia had 15 offensive rebounds that led to 19 second chance points.

Sophomore Michael Zabetakis recorded a double-double on the day with 10 points and 11 rebounds, but it was Seth Brown-Carter who had a career day, putting up 29 points to set a new career high, and finishing 8-of-12 from the field and 11-of-12 from the free throw line.

In the opening half, the teams went back-and-forth with the largest lead coming at four for UWG. The Bucs would take their first and only lead of the game late in the half, but with CBU leading 37-35, the Wolves closed the opening half on a 9-1 run to lead by six at the break.

The second half started out all West Georgia as the Wolves quickly grew the lead to 10 on a Kadeim Jones layup at the 16:03 mark, and the Wolves kept building on it, eventually leading by as much as 17.

But in the middle portion of the half, the Bucs had some fight in them, cutting the UWG lead all the way to six at the 3:18 mark, scoring six points on one possession thanks to a four-point play and a technical foul.

West Georgia responded with four straight points to stretch it back to 10, which was enough to hold off the visiting Buccaneers.

Along with Brown-Carter's 29 and the Zabetakis double-double, Dave Moore got a big game from Kadeim Jones who scored 18 on 8-of-10 shooting while also pulling down eight rebounds.

The win moves UWG to 6-14 on the season and 4-8 in Gulf South Conference play. UWG is on the road next Thursday, traveling to Pensacola to take on West Florida.
