Wolves Sweep UWA for Second Consecutive Home Win

CARROLLTON, Ga. – UWG volleyball secured their second home win of the season after sweeping conference foe West Alabama Saturday afternoon.

Coming off a loss to Shorter on Tuesday, West Georgia responded by posting a season-high .293 hitting percentage en route to a 3-0 victory over the Tigers, improving their record to 10-9 (4-5 GSC) on the season.

The first set started out shaky for the Wolves as West Alabama marched out to an 8-5 lead with four points coming off UWG errors. The Wolves started to find their rhythm with a 5-1 run sparked by a kill from Kaylyn Buchanan. After a mini 3-1 run from West Alabama, UWG responded with a 10-5 run of their own to take a 21-17 lead deep into the set. The two teams traded points until a big block from Tierra White won the set for the Wolves, 25-21.

The second set started out with both teams trading blows with UWG winning the race to 10. With the score sitting at 10-8, West Georgia went on a massive 12-3 run to give them a comfortable 22-11 lead. West Alabama kept fighting until a thunderous kill from White ended the set with the Wolves on top 25-15.

The momentum from the second set carried over to the third as back-to-back service aces from Jesse Echols gave UWG an 11-6 lead. After back-to-back points from the Tigers, West Alabama began to struggle with their attacks as six attack errors sparked a 10-5 West Georgia run. With the score sitting at 21-13, The Wolves ended the set and the match with a 4-1 run capped off by a kill from White.

White led UWG in kills with 10 while posting a season-high .529 hitting percentage. Emilee Harris and Caitlin Frazee were right behind her with nine and seven kills respectively.
