Wolves Start Week with Home Win Over Mississippi College

CARROLLTON, Ga. – UWG volleyball started their four-game week on the right foot with a 3-1 win over, conference opponent, Mississippi College.

Coming off their best offensive performance of the season, West Georgia kept that momentum rolling as tonight's win moves the Wolves to 11-9 overall and 5-5 in conference play.

The first set saw UWG march out to a 12-5 lead with Emilee Harris scoring six of those points. Mississippi College started to find their rhythm as they responded with a 4-0 run to put the score at 12-9 halfway through the set. The set became very competitive with both teams traded points until back-to-back kills from Tierra White and Autumn Mayes ended the set with West Georgia on top 25-20.

In the second set, the Wolves threw the first punch by storming out to a 5-0 lead forcing a quick Mississippi College timeout. Out of the timeout, the Choctaws responded by going on a 6-2 run that was halted by a Kaylyn Buchanan kill. Buchanan's kill sparked a 4-1 run for UWG putting the score at 11-7. The two teams continue to trade runs until Mississippi College stole the momentum with a service ace putting them ahead 23-21. West Georgia used a 3-0 run to retake the lead 24-23 until the Choctaws rattled off three straight points of their own to win the set 26-24.

The third set was dominated by the Wolves as they began the set winning the race to 10. With the score sitting at 10-6, UWG used a massive 12-2 run to put the set out of reach for the Choctaws. Mississippi College didn't concede the set as they went on a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to 10 before West Georgia won the set off a Mississippi College error.

In the fourth set, Mississippi College came out firing as they took a 10-5 lead to begin the set. Tierra White got the Wolves offense going with three straight kills, but the Wolves couldn't catch the Choctaws as they took a 16-10 lead midway through the set. With West Georgia down 20-14 in the set, Taylor Spradley sparked an 8-0 run putting the Wolves ahead 22-20. A 4-2 run from the Choctaws knotted the score at 24 until Emilee Harris ended the set and match with a kill and a service ace.

Emilee Harris racked up a game-high 13 kills with Caitlin Frazee and Tierra White on her heels with 12 and 11 kills of their own. Autumn Mayes served up a game-high 41 assists while Sydney Blackmon collected 22 digs. West Georgia will look to keep this momentum rolling into the GSC-SSC crossover starting on Friday.
