Box Score 2 CARROLLTON, Ga. – West Georgia started this year's GSC-SSC crossover on Friday afternoon at the AdventHealth Fieldhouse in Winter Haven, FL, as the Wolves fell 3-1 to the Eckerd Tritons.
The late game didn't go to plan for the UWG either as West Georgia dropped another four-set match to Palm Beach Atlantic. The Two losses put the Wolves at .500 on the year with an 11-11 record with a matchup against Tampa set for tomorrow afternoon.
Eckerd 3, Wolves 1
Friday's match against Eckerd was the first time this season
Tierra White didn't take the floor for UWG. White, who missed the match because of an illness, was replaced in the started lineup by, True freshman,
Claire Conway.
To begin the match, West Georgia struggled with their attacks as they posted a hitting percentage of .114 in the first set. The service game kept the Wolves in the set as
Autumn Mayes delivered 4 service aces. The hitting woes proved to be the difference as Eckerd took the set 25-22.
The second set was an evenly matched set with the Wolves accumulating 14 kills on just four attack errors while Eckerd delivered 15 kills on four attack errors as well. The two teams trading blows the entire length of the set until Eckerd went on a 9-2 run to take a 20-16 lead late. The Wolves couldn't spark a run of their own and dropped the set 25-21.
West Georgia blitzed the Tritons to start the third set as they took an 11-2 lead to begin. Eckerd was never able to recover as
Kaylyn Buchanan,
Emilee Harris, and
Taylor Spradley provided timely kills to halt any Eckerd run from formulating. UWG posted their best hitting percentage of the match in this set in route to a 25-16 victory.
The Wolves hitting percentage fell back under 20% in the fourth set while Eckerd had their best hitting set of the match. The Triton's five kill lead over the Wolves, in the set, proved to be the difference as Eckerd took the set 25-21 to win the match.
Emilee Harris recorded a game-high 17 kills while
Autumn Mayes dished out a game-high 40 assists.
Palm Beach Atlantic 3, Wolves 1
In the late match, West Georgia came out firing as they won a competitive first set, 25-23. Both team's attackers were on their A-games, but the Wolves were slightly out-hit by Palm Beach Atlantic in the second and third set as they fell 3-1 in the match.
UWG jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the first set behind four kills from
Taylor Spradley. Palm Beach Atlantic fought back, pulling within a point at 15-14 midway through the set. The teams traded points late until a kill from
Caitlin Frazee won the set for the Wolves 25-23. West Georgia turned in a .353 hitting percentage in the set.
After dropping the first set, Palm Beach Atlantic rattled off three straight sets to defeat the Wolves in four. The Sailfish out-hit UWG in the three sets in route to their victory.
Taylor Spradley,
Emilee Harris, and
Kaylyn Buchanan led the attacking efforts for the Wolves with 13, 13, and 10 kills respectfully. In her second collegiate start,
Claire Conway posted 7 kills with a .545 hitting percentage while added four blocks.
West Georgia will be back in action against Tampa tomorrow at 12:15 p.m.
