MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Two first half goals were enough for the West Georgia Wolves soccer team on Friday night as UWG shutout Auburn Montgomery 2-0 on the road in Gulf South Conference play.
The win was the third consecutive victory for West Georgia (8-6-0, 6-5-0 GSC) as the Wolves improved to 5-0 all-time against Auburn Montgomery.
For the second straight game, the UWG defense shutout their opponent, giving the Wolves six clean sheets on the season. AUM was limited to just two shots on the night, with only one on frame, which
Haley Brinkman handled in goal.
West Georgia got the early lead on
Lauren O'Neill's second goal of the season, as the freshman found the back of the net just five minutes into the contest.
Cassidi Thomas picked up the assist, giving the junior two on the season.
Twenty minutes later,
Janet Hartman scored her second goal of the season, making it 2-0 in the 25
th minute.
That would be enough for the Wolves as they rattled off 18 total shots with nine on target.
The win moved West Georgia up to sixth in the GSC Standings and with the other results across the league on Friday, UWG would be in a position to host the opening round of the GSC Tournament were the Wolves to win out.
UWG takes on Montevallo on Sunday at 2 p.m. before closing out the regular season next Thursday at home against Valdosta State.
