CLEVELAND, Miss. – West Georgia couldn't find a goal on Friday, and fell on the road to Delta State, 2-0 in Gulf South Conference soccer action.
West Georgia (5-3-0, 3-2-0 GSC) got off just five shots in the contest, and gave up a pair of second half goals as Delta State (6-5-0, 6-1-0 GSC) won their third straight game.
In the opening half, the Wolves had a solid attack, staying in the Delta State third for a good portion of the period.
Janet Hartman had the Wolves' lone shot on goal in the opening half, and the two teams went to the break tied 0-0.
Delta State got on the board in the 53
rd minute as Carra Hymel snuck one past
Chanceley Book in goal.
A penalty awarded to the Lady Statesmen was converted by Anna Whitehead in the 75
th minute, putting DSU up two goals.
Sadie Prince had the only other shot on goal in the second half, but could not get it past Amanda Hilliard who had two saves for the Lady statesmen. Book made one save in goal for the Wolves.
There's no time to dwell on the loss though as West Georgia must regroup and continue the Mississippi swing. The Wolves head to Clinton, Mississippi for Sunday's showdown with Mississippi College. Kickoff for that game is set for 1 p.m.
