CARROLLTON, Ga. – Playing for the second time in as many days, the UWG women's basketball team won decisively on their home floor on Wednesday, defeating the Oakwood Ambassadors 81-36.
Every player that touched the floor scored for the Wolves (2-2) in West Georgia's final win before Gulf South Conference play next week.
Siera Carter led the Wolves again in the scoring department with 14 points, but it was
Jaylin Austin with her first career double-double scoring 12 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
Oakwood (0-4) scored the first two baskets of the game, but once the Wolves settled in and gained a lead at the 6:45 mark, UWG would never trail again in the game, stretching their lead to as much as seven in the opening quarter.
A swarming defensive effort by the Wolves forced 19 first half turnovers, leading to 20 points on turnovers for West Georgia in the first half. At the break, the Wolves would lead by 15.
It was more of the same for the Wolves in the third quarter as UWG continued to pour it on, outscoring Oakwood 27-9 in the period. West Georgia led by as much as 47 in the contest, eventually earning their second win of the season by a 45-point margin.
It's the largest margin of victory for the UWG women since a 98-52 victory over Morris on January 8, 2011.
Lanee' Edwards also found double-figures on Wednesday, scoring a season-high 12 points while
Carter added three steals and five assists to her total, leading the team in both categories.
West Georgia is now off until next Wednesday, December 1, when the Wolves open Gulf South Conference play with a 7:30 p.m. contest against West Florida.
