CARROLLTON, Ga. – UWG volleyball extended their home winning streak to four with a 3-0 sweep of the Union Bulldogs on Friday night.
West Georgia's defense along with a spectacular performance from
Emilee Harris vaulted the Wolves over the Bulldogs as UWG held Union to a .117 hitting percentage on the night. The win moves West Georgia to 13-14 overall and 7-7 in the GSC on the season.
Wolves 25, Union 18
The Wolves came out firing on all cylinders, in the first set, as they took a quick 9-2 lead, and forced Union to burn their first timeout of the night. Out of the timeout, the Bulldogs found their offensive rhythm as they went back-and-forth with West Georgia until four straight Union attack errors sparked a 6-0 UWG run to put the set out of reach with the score sitting at 21-12 in favor of the Wolves. The Bulldogs fought to stay in the set until a kill from
Taylor Spradley ended the set with West Georgia on top, 25-18.
Wolves 25, Union 21
The second set began very competitively as neither team could go on a run, and left the score tied at 14 halfway through. A 3-0 run from Union created a little breathing room for the Bulldogs and forced West Georgia to burn a timeout. With the score reading 17-14,
Emilee Harris completely took over the set as she sparked a 6-2 run with five of those six points coming from Harris. After the Harris explosion, Union called a timeout to stifle UWG's momentum, but it was no avail as the Wolves closed out the set with a 4-0 run.
Wolves 25, Union 21
West Georgia started out the third set by winning the race to 10 with Union three points behind them before a couple of errors from UWG contributed to a 5-2 Union run to tie the set at 12. The teams would then trade points until the Bulldogs used a 7-1 run to go up 20-16 late in the set. With the set slipping away, the Wolves went on a 9-1 run to win the set and the match with the last point coming from a thunderous
Emilee Harris kill.
Emilee Harris blasted a game-high 20 kills with a .395 hitting percentage with
Caitlin Frazee and
Kaylyn Buchanan behind her with nine and eight kills respectively.
Autumn Mayes dished out 36 assists while
Sydney Blackmon picked up 16 digs. West Georgia will look to extend their home winning streak to five with Christian Brothers coming into town tomorrow with first serve set for 2 p.m.
