VALDOSTA, Ga. - It just wasn't the Wolves night in Valdosta on Saturday as the UWG women's basketball team fell 63-37 to the Valdosta State Blazers in Gulf South Conference action.
West Georgia (2-4, 0-2 GSC) couldn't find a rhythm offensively on Saturday, shooting just 27 percent from the field and committing 25 turnovers.
It was an uphill battle for the Wolves, as they only scored two points in the first quarter, and trailed 11-2 after ten minutes of play. West Georgia did start the second quarter on an 8-0 run to cut it within one, but Valdosta State (6-1, 1-0 GSC) closed on a 9-0 run to lead 20-10 at the break.
Valdosta State outscored West Georgia 43-27 in the second half, although the Wolves did score 20 points in the final quarter.
Ranajah Verdell's nine points led the Wolves, including a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. The freshman also led the team in rebounds with five as did
Maya Timberlake.
Mariah Holder chipped in with eight points in the loss. VSU's Kwajelin Farrar led all scorers with 14 points and had a game-high 10 rebounds.
West Georgia is idle for nine days before heading to Huntsville to take on Alabama Huntsville on December 13.
