UWG head football coach
David Dean noted how the tournament will be a fun way to engage with alumni and fans and generate even more energy moving toward the 2021 fall campaign.
Traditionally, West Georgia has held a golf outing in Carrollton, but it decided to host this year's event in Monroe in order to extend opportunities for Wolves who reside in the Atlanta and Athens areas.
"We've mostly brought back former players when we've had it in Carrollton. What we wanted to do, we wanted to reach out to the entire West Georgia community. So we're trying to get a lot of folks that live in the Atlanta and Athens area and a golf tournament where it's convenient for them to come," Dean said. "We've gotten a lot of interest and a lot of support on it. It's a way for us to engage in the Atlanta and Athens area, which we haven't touched in quite a few years."
Dean stressed how tournaments such as this directly benefit the UWG players.
"It gives them an opportunity that when we're on the road, we can eat well and we can stay in a little bit nicer places and get busses that are more convenient and comfortable for them to travel," Dean said. "This goes a lot into what we do, as far as our game day travel and then also our equipment, which is extremely important for our guys to be able to win is to have the best equipment that we can have. That's what this tournament mainly goes into."
