Wolves Finish Weekend with Loss at UWF

CARROLLTON, Ga. – UWG Volleyball completed this weekend's trip through the southern arc of the Gulf South Conference on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-0 to West Florida in Pensacola.

Facing a program that has not lost a home conference match in their last 100 outings, the Wolves struggled on the attack to fall to 7-5 (1-2 GSC) on the season. In the three-set match, UWG committed 22 attack errors while finishing with a hitting percentage of .027.

The first set was a game of back-and-forth runs with UWF landing the first punch in taking a 7-2 lead. Kaylyn Buchanan put a stop to the UWF onslaught with a kill that was set up perfectly by Autumn Mayes, sparking a 5-0 run by the Wolves to force a UWF timeout. Out of the timeout, UWF responded with a 5-0 run of their own to take a 12-7 lead in the set. The Wolves returned the favor, responding with another 6-0 run anchored by Buchanan to take their first lead of the set 14-13. This back-and-forth play continued, but UWF pushed ahead to win the set 25-19.

The second set of the match was very competitive early in the frame. The Wolves took a 9-8 lead behind a huge block from Caitlin Frazee, but UWF responded with a kill from their go-to attacker, Veresia Von to give the Argonauts a 16-12 lead halfway through the set. UWF used the momentum from Von's kill to finish the set with a 9-4 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-16 victory.

UWF came out very fast in the third set, jumping out to a quick 11-3 lead. The Wolves closed the gap to as little as a five-point lead, but West Florida pushed the lead back out to win the match with a 25-15 victory.

Emilee Harris led the Wolves in kills with eight while Mayes dished out 24 assists. The Wolves will be on the road again Friday as they look to bounce back against Union.
