Wolves Fall on the Road at Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. - In their first game back in nearly three weeks, the UWG women's basketball team fell 76-65 on the road to the Delta State Lady Statesmen on Wednesday evening.

West Georgia (6-8, 3-6 GSC) led for just the first 30 seconds of the game before the homestanding Lady Statesmen ran their lead to 11-2 midway through the quarter. By the time the first 10 minutes had passed, Delta State (9-8, 7-5 GSC) led by 14 points.

Both teams scored 15 points each in the second quarter with Delta State leading 38-24 at halftime.

Siera Carter heated up in the third quarter, scoring 10 points in the period, and getting West Georgia back within four just over five minutes into the third. But Delta State would respond with a timeout and an 11-0 run to stretch their lead to 15.

The Wolves would get as close as seven down the stretch, but Delta State was able to close at the free throw line, shooting 11-of-12 from the strip in the final quarter.

Carter led West Georgia with 17 points while Zaria Bankston and Tahya Campbell each had 12. Bankston had a decent night on the glass and dishing the rock, tallying a team-high six rebounds and seven assists.

Four Lady Statesmen scored in double-figures led by 19 from T'Kyra Hicks. Zyaire Ewing had a double-double for DSU, scoring 16 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.
