MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A late second half goal from Kenna Kay proved to be key in a comeback effort for the University of West Georgia soccer team as they fought to a 1-1 draw against Christian Brothers in Memphis on Friday night.
Even though the first half ended in a 1-0 advantage for the Bucs, the Wolves thoroughly dominated every offensive category. West Georgia finished the half with 14 shots with six being on goal, and six corner kicks. Janet Hartman, Jade Butcher, Hillary Resendiz, Sadie Prince, and Sydney Goodwin all had two shots in the half, but none were able to fall for the Wolves.
The lone goal of the first half came in the 35th minute from CBU's Marita Cancio after she cleaned up a deflection in the box.
The second half began with strong defensive performances from both sides. However, in the 68th minute, Kenna Kay found the back of the net with a key equalizer for the Wolves. That would be the game's final goal as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Wolves dominated the shot column all night finishing with 22 shots compared to 8 from the Bucs. The Wolves also finished with more shots on goal and corner kicks.
The goal by Kay was the third of the season for the Freshman.
The Wolves are back in action on Sunday in Jackson, Tenn. when they take on the Union Bulldogs. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
