PENSACOLA, Fla. – West Georgia's women's basketball team fell in the final road game of the season on Wednesday night, falling 81-56 to the West Florida Argonauts in Gulf South Conference action.
The Wolves (9-14, 6-12 GSC) never led on Wednesday, as the Argonauts (19-7, 13-6 GSC) put up their third highest point total of the season.
Turnovers played a big key in the game as the Wolves committed 16 turnovers that led to 22 points off of turnover for West Florida. The Argonauts were also hot from beyond the arc, pouring in 13 three-pointers.
West Georgia made just four field goals in the opening quarter, falling behind 18-10 after 10 minutes of play. The Argonauts nearly doubled their lead in the second period, extending the advantage to 15 points by the halftime break.
In the second half, West Florida scored 45 points, reaching their largest lead of the game with just 1:35 to play at 29 points.
Mariah Holder led UWG in scoring on the night with 12 points while
Siera Carter scored 11 points.
Tahya Campbell was 3-of-5 from beyond the arc with nine points. Holder and
Valencia Carroll led the Wolves on the glass with seven rebounds each.
UWF got 27 points from Peyton Lewis, while Jaclyn Jarnot had a big game scoring 18 points and grabbing 16 rebounds.
The loss mathematically eliminated West Georgia from qualifying for the GSC Tournament. The final game of the 2021-22 season is set for Saturday against Valdosta State. UWG will host Senior Day at The Coliseum prior to the game with tip-time scheduled for 4 p.m.
