CARROLLTON, Ga. – It was a tough Saturday at the ballpark as the UWG softball team fell in both games of a Gulf South Conference doubleheader against Auburn Montgomery at University Field.
West Georgia (4-11, 0-6 GSC) dropped game two of the series to open the DH by a 9-3 tally, and the fell to the 15
th-ranked Warhawks (11-3, 3-0 GSC) in the finale, 15-0.
Game One
The Wolves were nearly no-hit in the opener, waiting until the sixth inning to get their first hit. Meanwhile, AUM jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the first of Chloe Derrick's three home runs in the game.
Auburn Montgomery got two more in the third and another in the fourth to extend their lead, and then hit back-to-back homers from Gia Martin and Chloe Derrick in the fifth to make it a 7-0 lead.
Derrick hit her third homer of the game in the seventh, and AUM got a ninth run in on a pinch hit RBI double from Margaret Morgan.
AUM's starter, Morgan Ferguson was three outs away from a no-hitter when
Kristyn Nix led off the seventh with a double to break up the no-hitter.
Alley Taylor then slammed her second home run of the season, bending it around the left field foul pole to put UWG on the board.
R.J. Janke followed that up with a double and then later scored on an RBI single from
Ava Ramirez.
Game Two
The finale of the series was all AUM as the Warhawks pounded out 13 hits in route to the 15-0 win in five innings.
The Warhawks scored two in the first, five in the second and seven in the third to go up 14-0 after three. AUM would push their final run across in the fifth.
Offensively for the Wolves,
Hannah Scarbrough,
Chandler Mevis,
R.J. Janke, and
Bailey Christol each had hits in the loss.
Notable Numbers
- Alley Taylor's homer in game one on Saturday was the 19th home run of her career. Her two RBIs on the day pushes her career total to 86.
- Isabella Pinto stole a base in game two, remaining perfect on the season, swiping her sixth bag in six attempts.
