FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – UWG Baseball improved to 4-0 on the young season after an 11-1 win over the Emmanuel Lions on Tuesday.
The Wolves' 11-run performance was powered by
Collin Moore who went 5-5 at the plate with a home run and four RBIs.
Fuzzy Furr,
Jackson Webb, and
Edgar Cruz also picked up RBIs to propel West Georgia to their fourth straight 10+ run game.
Pitcher
Jack Rasmussen made his first start of the 2022 season for UWG and surrendered his first and only run in the bottom of the second inning. After two scoreless innings, the Wolves got on the board thanks to a
Collin Moore two-run homerun that put West Georgia ahead 2-1 in the fourth inning.
With Rasmussen dealing on the hill, the UWG bats started to heat back up, in the fourth inning, as
Collin Moore picked up his third RBI of the game with an RBI-single that drove in
Logan Fink to make it 3-1 Wolves.
Fuzzy Furr followed the Moore RBI-single with a sacrifice fly that scored
Jonathan Logsdon to give West Georgia a three-run lead.
To start the seventh inning,
Andrew Smith got the call from the bullpen to relieve
Jack Rasmussen. After a spotless seventh inning, the bats got back to work as UWG put up a three spot in the eighth.
Fuzzy Furr got things started with an RBI-single which was followed up by an RBI-double from
Jackson Webb.
Edgar Cruz finished things off in the eighth with an RBI-single that extended the lead to 7-1.
Heading into the ninth inning, The West Georgia bats weren't done as the Wolves pushed four across the plate.
Anthony Calabro was the first to touch home plate in the ninth after he scored off a wild pitch.
Collin Moore would then cap off his phenomenal performance with another RBI-single to give him his fourth RBI of the game.
Jackson Webb followed that up with a two-run double to give UWG a comfortable 11-1 lead.
In the bottom of the ninth,
Ronny Piepmeier got the last three outs to secure the fourth win of the season for the Wolves.
West Georgia will be back in action on Friday when they head to Boca Raton, Florida for a matchup with the Lynn Fighting Knights that's set for 2:30 p.m.
