CARROLLTON, Ga. – The series finale went the way of the Blazers on Sunday as the UWG softball team fell 12-1 to the fourth-ranked Valdosta State squad in game three.
West Georgia (11-24, 4-16 GSC) starter
Macy Ann McKnight put up two scoreless frames againt the Blazers, and even had a lead after a second-inning home run by
Jacie Arrington.
But that's all the scoring West Georgia would get and the Valdosta State (27-5, 19-1 GSC) bats would come to life, pushing three runs across in the third, four in the eighth, and one in the fifth to go up by 11, and end the game after five.
The UWG offense had just three hits as VSU starter Samantha Richards struck out 13 batters in the game. Arrington had the homer,
Kristyn Nix hit a double, and
Hannah Scarbrough notched the third hit for the Wolves
Nix's double led off the game for the Wolves, and extended her hitting streak to 18 games.
The Wolves travel to Georgia Southwestern on Tuesday for non-conference action. The doubleheader is set for 3 p.m. in Americus, Georgia.
