HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The UWG softball team was swept in a Friday doubleheader at Alabama Huntsville in Gulf South Conference action.
The Chargers (26-14, 14-9 GSC) bested West Georgia (11-28, 4-18 GSC) 5-1 in the series opener, and then the UAH offense pounded out 16 runs in a game two win.
Game One
Jacie Arrington provided the only run for the Wolves in the series opener, slugging a second-inning home run to put the Wolves up, 1-0.
An infield single in the bottom of the second, plated a run for the Chargers and tied things up. In the next inning, the Chargers got two runners on and Kiara Akles did the damage with a three-run home run. UAH also added a run in the fifth on a single.
The Wolves had just three hits in the game, while Macy An McKnight allowed just six from the Chargers.
Game Two
The second game of the twin bill was all UAH, as the Chargers had 14 hits, scoring three in the first, two in the second, seven in the third, and four in the fourth to lead 16-0.
West Georgia got on the board in the fifth inning, scoring on an RBI double from
Ava Ramirez that pushed across
Addison Sturdivant.
Katie Hassenboehler also picked up an RBI on an infield single that accounted for the Wolves' second run.
UWG ended game two with six hits, with three of them being pinch hits in the final inning.
Notable Numbers
- Arrington's game one home run was the third in four games for the senior. The Ramseur, North Carolina native has five home runs on the season and seven for her career.
- Emily Bodenheimer had a double in the seventh inning of game one, which was her first career extra-base hit.
- Addison Sturdivant's fifth inning single was the first hit of the freshman's career.
- Macy Ann McKnight singled in what was her first career at-bat.
