CARROLLTON, Ga. - After conceding an early goal, the University of West Georgia soccer team was unable to climb back into the match, falling 1-0 to the Delta State Lady Statesmen on Friday night.
Delta State (7-5, 4-3 GSC) found the back of the net in the ninth minute after Robyn Moody fought past UWG's keeper
Haley Brinkman and put the shot away. The score would remain 1-0 until halftime, with both sides combining for just six shots in the half, and only three were on goal.
The Wolves (5-4-1, 3-2-1 GSC) controlled most of the offensive attack in the first half, taking four of the six shots, but only one was on target. West Georgia also controlled the corner kicks 4-1.
In the second half, the offensive production nearly doubled for both sides, as both sides combined for 11 shots in the half, with six coming from the Wolves. Once again, UWG only put two of those shots on goal, and neither found the back of the net, ending the contest at 1-0 in favor of the Lady Statesmen.
The Wolves finished with 10 shots and seven corners, but struggled finding the target with just three shots on goal. Six Wolves played the entire 90 minutes, including three of the four defenders.
West Georgia will now turn their attention to the 21st-ranked Mississippi College Choctaws, who make the trip to Carrollton on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff from University Field is set for 1p.m.
