Four Score in Double-Figures as UWG Moves to 2-0

UWG Women's Basketball Defeats Tuskegee at The Coliseum

CARROLLTON, Ga. - West Georgia women's basketball got off to a 2-0 start to the new season on Saturday, wrapping up a perfect opening weekend with a 70-53 win over Tuskegee in the final game of the GSC/SIAC Crossover at The Coliseum.

It was the first 2-0 start for a UWG team since 2019 and improved the Wolves to 12-8 all-time against Tuskegee and 68-25 all-time against the SIAC.

UWG got four scorers in double-figures, and shot 46 percent from the field on a day where the Wolves' defense held their opponent to just 30 percent from the field. Zuriyah Davis led the Wolves with a game-high 20 points, while the Wolves got 14 points from Mykah Anderson, 12 from Aliyah Washington and another double-double from Jada Powell with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

West Georgia had a big advantage on the glass, pulling down 49 rebounds to Tuskegee's 38.

It was a game of catch up early on for the Wolves as Tuskegee grabbed the early lead and eventually led by as much as eight in the opening quarter. After scoring just eight first quarter points, the Wolves offense settled in and outscored the Golden Tigers 20-10 in the second quarter. It was Anderson's three-pointer with 6:25 left in the half that gave UWG their first lead of the game, and they would never trail again.

A 28-24 halftime advantage grew to double digits on a Katelyn Dunning jumper with 2:29 remaining in the third, and the Wolves would pull away, and lead by as much as 18 in the final quarter.

West Georgia had a 32-22 point advantage in the paint on Saturday afternoon and overcame 21 turnovers in the win.

Powell's 10 rebounds led all players while Anderson and Washington each had seven, followed by six from sophomore center K'Nari Holliday. Dunning's six assists led UWG in that category.

The Wolves now have seven days before their next action as UWG will host Talladega next Saturday, November 18 at 2 p.m.
