CARROLLTON, Ga. – The accolades for UWG's
Michael Zabetakis continue to grow as the guard was named to the 2022-23 D2CCA All-South Region Second-Team on Friday.
Zabetakis currently leads the Wolves in scoring with 19.0 points per game on 44% shooting and 36.7% from three, while sitting second in rebounding with 5.2 boards per game. Zabetakis has excelled as West Georgia's number one scoring option this year as the grad student has scored 20+ points in 12 games this season and has scored in double figures in all but three games.
Coming into the NCAA Tournament, Zabetakis is 49 points away from becoming UWG's All-Time leading scorer, currently sitting in second with 1,648 career points. On top of his historic scoring number, the Cumming native broke West Georgia's All-time three-pointers made record against Valdosta State on February 28 and broke UWG's All-time games played record earlier this season.
Zabetakis' historic career with the Wolves is nearing its end, but not before West Georgia attempts to make some noise in the NCAA Tournament, beginning with a South Region Quarterfinal matchup against the Lee Flames on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
