CARROLLTON, Ga. - The University of West Georgia Volleyball team dropped a conference match against the Eastern Kentucky Colonels in Sunday afternoon's matchup at The Coliseum.
UWG (9-11, 2-6 ASUN) struggles against Eastern Kentucky's (14-7, 5-3 ASUN) high-powered offense led by AG Vandagriff and Sarah Mitchell who combined for 23 kills on a .500 hitting percentage.
In the first set, the Colonels got out to a fast start going on a 3-0 run early. West Georgia would soon find a spark, with
Rylee Henderson laying down two key kills to tie the match at 4-4. UWG and EKU would trade punches back-and-forth before Eastern Kentucky would pull away with Isa Blackwell tallying two service aces to close out the set, 25-21.
The second set would have a similar beginning, but UWG would be the ones getting out to an early 3-0 lead. The Wolves' lead was short-lived as the Colonels would battle back to tie the match at 5-5 and hold on to the lead the rest of the way to win the set, 25-17.
The third set would continue the trend of jumping out to a quick lead with Eastern Kentucky having a 4-1 lead to begin the set. The Colonels would continue to keep their foot on the gas and hold off any attempt of the Wolves to avoid a sweep. Eastern Kentucky would win the set, 25-15 and close out the match 3-0.
Offensively, West Georgia was led by
Rylee Henderson with six kills and defensively led by
Alex Strating with six blocks on the day.
The Wolves will be back in action on next Friday at conference rival North Alabama, with first serve time for 6:00 p.m. Then, the Wolves travel to Central Arkansas on Sunday with first serve slated at 1:00 p.m.
