FLORENCE, Ala. - The University of West Georgia Volleyball team dropped a conference match to rival North Alabama in Friday night's matchup in Florence, Alabama.
West Georgia (9-12, 2-7 ASUN) struggled against North Alabama's (12-10, 6-3 ASUN) dynamic offense led by Jasmine Brooks, Reese Ricketts, and Brenna Tietz, who combined for 41 kills on a .445 hitting percentage.
In the first, the Lions were able to control the majority of the set but the Wolves were able to muster up multiple runs to keep the game close.
Alex Strating would be a key piece to these runs by tallying up four kills that would put West Georgia in a great position to take the lead. UWG would tie the match at 20-20 but UNA's high-powered offense would go on a 5-1 run to close out the first set, 25-21.
In the second set, North Alabama came out the gate hot, jumping out to an early 7-1 lead. West Georgia would slowly make strides to bring the deficit within five but UNA's momentum would carry them to a 25-14 win, to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set would favor the second, with UNA getting out to an early 4-1 lead. The Lions momentum would continue to grow from there and this would hold off any attempt of West Georgia to avoid a sweep. North Alabama would win the set, 25-20 and close out the match 3-0.
Offensively, the Wolves were led by
Alex Strating with seven kills on the night and defensively led by
Victoria Schmer with 18 digs.
West Georgia will conclude their two-game road trip on Sunday against The Central Arkansas Bears with the first serve beginning at 1:00 p.m.
