CONWAY, Ark. - The University of West Georgia Volleyball team fell in Sunday's conference matchup against the Central Arkansas Bears to end their two-game road trip.
UWG (9-13, 2-7 ASUN) struggled against the Central Arkansas Bears (12-9, 9-1) and their balanced attack on offense with 48 kills as a team on a .336 hitting percentage.
In the beginning set, Central Arkansas got out to a blazing hot, 10-3 start. The Bears were firing on all cylinders, but the Wolves were able to counteract with finding momentum late in the set by going on a 6-2 run led by
Alex Strating and
Mary Morgan Formby to bring UWG within seven points. UCA was able slow down the Wolves run to close out the set, 25-17.
In the second, it was an action-packed set with both teams playing at a high level. West Georgia would get out to a quick lead but Central Arkansas would rally back to tie the match at 7-7. Both teams having high energy and momentum led to a see-saw type battle with both teams trading leads throughout the set. The Bears would outlast the Wolves to win the set, 25-21 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, Central Arkansas was able to seize control early to slow down any momentum West Georgia would try to gain. The Bears would close out the set, 25-18 and sweep the Wolves 3-0.
Offensively,
Rylee Henderson and Formby led the team in kills with 18 combined and defensively,
Victoria Schmer had 14 digs.
The Wolves will be back in action next Friday at home, taking on defending Atlantic Sun Champions, the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles at The Coliseum. First serve is slated for 6:00 p.m.
