DELAND, Fla. – The University of West Georgia soccer team fell in a tough match against Stetson, losing 1-0 on Thursday night.
The Wolves (2-9) put up a strong fight against the Hatters but struggled to find opportunities to score. The first half saw both teams battling back and forth, with few chances on goal—Stetson took four shots while UWG managed two. Neither team found the net, and they went into halftime tied 0-0.
In the second half, the pace shifted as Stetson ramped up the pressure and dominated possession. The Wolves held firm defensively, successfully blocking all 11 of Stetson's shots. Goalkeeper Hanna Garrett had another standout performance, making 6 key saves to keep the score level.
It wasn't until the 74th minute that Kely Gende sent a cross from the right side, and Lea Alexander tapped it in at the far post to give the Hatters the lead.
In the closing minutes, the Wolves pushed with extra intensity but couldn't find the equalizer.
The Wolves will wrap up their weekend on Sunday, October 6, against Florida Gulf Coast at 1:00 p.m. FGCU (4-5-1) comes into the match after a postponed game against Queens. Fans can follow the action live on ESPN+ and through live stats
