Wolves Stumble to Royals in 3 Set Battle

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The University of West Georgia Volleyball team fell short in Wednesday's conference matchup against the Queens Royals in Charlotte.

West Georgia (9-18, 2-13 ASUN) would stumble against the Queens Royals,(8-18, 5-10 ASUN) as their dynamic offense was led by Kayla Mcduffie who posted 13 kills on a .545 hitting percentage.

The beginning set saw both teams start out fast by making great plays on both sides of the net. Mary Morgan Formby contributed well, putting down two key kills in the first half of the set. The Royals would soon find their groove and find late momentum to slow down UWG's offense to take a 19-10 lead. This lead would continue to grow and Queens would take a 25-19 set win, to go up 1-0 in the match.

In the second, the Royals momentum continued as they got out to an early 12-3 lead. West Georgia would soon find a spark to cut the lead down to four. Formby, would be the key piece for this spark as she tallied up three crucial kills, but that would not be enough as Queens would outlast the Wolves to finish the set, 25-20 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set was a back-and-forth battle that came down to the wire. Both teams put forth their best effort to try to take the advantage, but in the end, the Queens Royals would take set the 25-20 to sweep the Wolves 3-0.

Offensively, West Georgia was led by Callaway Cason who surpassed 800 assists on the season with a 32 assist performance tonight. On the defensive side of the net, Victoria Schmer led the team with 24 digs.

West Georgia will be back in action on Saturday against the Lipscomb Bison for Senior Night at The Coliseum. First serve is slated for 12:00 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
