JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of West Georgia Volleyball team fell short against the North Florida Ospreys in Friday night's conference matchup in Jacksonville.
West Georgia (9-16, 2-11 ASUN) struggled against North Florida's (11-16, 6-6 ASUN) dynamic offense, who finished the night with 44 kills and 17 service aces.
In the first, North Florida took control of the set early with a 5-2 lead. West Georgia would keep it close with Zoë LaBreche putting down some crucial kills to get the Wolves within one point, 7-6. But UNF's Annie Antar and Amy Burkhardt would help the Ospreys pull away to give them a 21-10 lead that would set up Emma Pohlmann to close out the set with four service aces. North Florida would win the set 25-10, and go up 1-0 in the match.
In the second, it was West Georgia that took control early with a 4-1 lead to begin the set. UNF would gain momentum and eventually climb back and take the lead. Down the stretch, it became a back and forth battle with both teams laying down crucial points. The score would be even at 20-20, before North Florida would muster up a late 5-2 run to win the set, 25-22 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Ospreys would wear down the Wolves defense by tallying up six service aces within the set. This would put UNF over UWG, 25-17 and North Florida would complete the sweep.
Offensively, the Wolves were led by
Sanai Young with eight kills. Defensively, UWG was led by
Victoria Schmer with 17 digs.
West Georgia will be back in action tomorrow against the Jacksonville Dolphins. First serve is slated for 5:00 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN +.
