Volleyball Drops Saturday Contest at Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of West Georgia volleyball team dropped Saturday's match on the road against the Jacksonville Dolphins in Atlantic Sun Conference play.

UWG (9-17, 2-12 ASUN) struggled to contain the Jacksonville (14-12, 9-5 ASUN) offense who accumulated 40 kills on a .245 hitting percentage.

The beginning of the first set was a back-and-forth battle with multiple lead changes. Rylee Henderson would lead the way for West Georgia by putting down four kills that would keep the match close. The Dolphins would then find momentum to separate themselves from the Wolves by going on a 4-1 run in the back half of the set. Jacksonville would then continue their momentum to close out the set 25-18.

The second set was an all out brawl with both teams attacking at a high level. The Wolves would battle all the way to the end but the Dolphins would outlast West Georgia by taking the set, 25-23 and a 2-0 lead in the match.

Jacksonville would continue their hot streak by getting out to an early 11-2 lead in the third set. This would put the Dolphins in a great position to sweep. The Wolves would counter with a couple of points of their own but ultimately Jacksonville's offense would continue to score to close out the match with a 25-17 win and sweep UWG.

Offensively the Wolves were led by Rylee Henderson with nine kills. Defensively, Victoria Schmer led the team with 16 digs.

The Wolves will be back in action on Wednesday with a mid-week conference matchup against the Queens Royals. First serve is slated for 6:00 p.m.
