Wolves Nearly Break Scoring Record in Rout of Brenau

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The UWG women's basketball team scored the second-most points in program history on Sunday, throttling the Brenau Tigers 110-49 in the Wolves' final tune-up before conference play begins this week.

West Georgia (6-5) shot 54.9 percent from the field, and came up three points shy of the all-time points record of 113 which came against Miles in the 1993-94 season. The win also improved UWG to a perfect 4-0 at home as a Division I program. Brenau (2-12) was held to 30 percent from the field in what was their eighth straight defeat.

Six Wolves scored in double-figures in the win, led by Zuriyah Davis with 23 points on 7-of-9 shooting and a 5-of-6 clip from distance. UWG also got double-figures from Destiny Jones with 16, K'Nari Holliday with 15, Hannah Hicks and Grace O'Gara with 13, and Amanda Blake. Sydne Tolbert had eight points in the win, and dished out a career-high 11 assists.

West Georgia won the opening quarter, using an 8-0 run early to pull away and outscore the Tigers 20-12 in the first period.

The defense clamped down in the second quarter, holding the Tigers to just nine points on four field goals. Meanwhile, West Georgia's offense used the defense to spark a 27-point outburst on 12-of-18 shooting from the field in the quarter.

Zuriyah Davis hit three three-pointers in the second quarter alone, and the Wolves finished the half with 20 points off of turnovers to lead 47-21.

Out of the break, UWG's offense stayed red-hot, extending the lead to nearly 50 points by the end of the third quarter. The Wolves outscored Brenau 34-14 in the period and led 81-35 with one quarter to play.

UWG played 12 players in the win, with 11 of those scoring in the win. The Wolves added 29 points in the final quarter and won the game by a 61-point margin which was the second-highest in program history behind a 63-point win over Armstrong State in 1988-89.

As a team, the Wolves racked up 30 assists on 45 makes. Defensively, the Wolves forced 33 turnovers and had 42 points off of turnovers.

West Georgia now opens up conference play on Thursday, January 2, taking on Stetson on the road at 7 p.m. EST.
