CARROLLTON, Ga. - With just two games remaining in the regular season, the UWG men's basketball team find themselves ranked second in the NCAA South Region Rankings that were released by the NCAA on Wednesday afternoon.
Wednesday's announcement marks the second release of the NCAA Region Rankings of the year and the first version where the teams received a ranking, rather than be listed alphabetically as "under consideration".
West Georgia is currently 22-4 on the season with noticeable wins over Alabama Huntsville, West Alabama, Lee, Embry-Riddle, and Palm Beach Atlantic.Â
Defending National Champion Nova Southeastern is the South Region's top-ranked team at 18-2 on the year. The top five is rounded out by Florida Southern, Embry-Riddle, and Lee with Lynn, Clark Atlanta and Alabama Huntsville occupying the sixth through eighth spots.Â
The top eight teams in the final rankings are selected to the NCAA South Region Tournament, set for March 16-19, with the top seed earning the right to host.
On the outside looking in with one week before conference tournaments begin are Benedict in ninth and Miles in tenth.
UWG will close out their 2023-24 regular season this week with matchups against Mississippi College tonight at 7:30 and then a Saturday road contest at Delta State.
