Wolves Complete Sweep of Florida Southern

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The University of West Georgia baseball team completed their sweep against the Florida Southern Mocs as the Wolves earned a 3-1 win on Sunday at Cole Field.

Pitching was the story for the Wolves this afternoon as they only allowed one run to the Mocs off seven hits.

"It's always great to get three wins on a weekend, especially when you play a quality opponent like Florida Southern," said head baseball coach Jeff Smith. "Our pitchers did an outstanding job and our hitters were able to come along and put a few runs across."

Carson Crossley was the starting pitcher on Sunday and put together a good pitching performance as he finished with 4.2 innings pitched with no runs on three hits and a pair of strikeouts. The Wolves used three pitchers in relief, with Jake Jordan earning the win on the mound.

It took awhile for either to get in the scoring column, but the Wolves got their scoring going first in the bottom of the fifth, as Jared Emory got a bases loaded walk to put the Wolves up 1-0. The Mocs would bounce back, however, to tie the game in the top of the sixth.

The Wolves would get back the lead in the bottom of the sixth courtesy of Sam Ladner who ripped an RBI single to bring home Cade Hohl

West Georgia would get a big insurance run in the bottom of the eighth as Jackson Webb singled home Hohl to increase the lead to 3-1. Ryan Whitener retired the Mocs in order in the ninth and got his third save of the season as the Wolves improved to 14-11.

West Georgia will be back in action Tuesday March 19th as they go on the road to face the University of Tampa at 6:00 P.M.
