Wolves Take Series over Tigers with Game Three Win

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Georgia Baseball team clinched their three-game series against West Alabama on Sunday after a 10-3 win in Game Three.

UWG (16-14, 9-6 GSC) dominated in all facets of the game on Sunday against West Alabama (14-16, 7-11 GSC) as they out hit the Tigers by five while committing two less errors.

The West Georgia bats went to work early as the Wolves jumped all over the Tigers' ace, Roe Ketchum in the first inning.

Jack Witmer got things started with a single before Luke Hatcher and Jared Emory drew walks, loading up the bases with two outs. Sam Ladner was next up and recorded a two-run single, bringing up Jackson Webb who launched a three-run homer to left center to put UWG up 5-0.

Ronny Piepmeier got the start for the Wolves in a bullpen game and got through the first unscathed, but ran into trouble in the second. West Alabama scored three runs in the innings, cutting West Georgia's lead to two.

Head coach Jeff Smith called on Will Dean out of the bullpen to finish out the second inning and the junior right hander threw two more innings of shut out ball before the UWG bats went back to work in the fifth.

Hatcher singled to begin the inning before a double from Emory put runners on second and third with no outs with Ladner due up. Ladner recorded his third and fourth RBI of the day as he singled up the middle, scoring Hatcher and Emory to extend the Wolves' lead to 7-3.

Ryan Whitener was inserted in the bottom half of the fifth and retired the side, bringing the hot UWG bats back to the plate in the sixth.

Witmer extended West Georgia's lead to six in the inning after hitting a no-doubt two-run home run to left field, while Whitener continued to deal.

The right hander threw three more shutouts innings, sending us to the ninth where the Wolves added to their lead. Tyler Presnell picked up a sacrifice fly, scoring Hatcher to put the Wolves up 10-3.

In the bottom of the ninth, Carson Crossley recorded the final three outs to clinch a series win for UWG.

Ladner, Hatcher, Emory, and Witmer all recorded two hits while Ladner racked up a team-high four RBIs. On the mound, Whitener picked up his second win of the season after throwing 4.0 innings of shutout out ball on two hits.

West Georgia will be back in action this upcoming weekend for a home series against Delta State, beginning on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
