Wolves Avenge Early Season Loss to Bobcats with One-Run Win on Tuesday

CARROLLTON, Ga - The University of West Georgia Baseball team got their revenge on the Georgia College and State Bobcats on Tuesday, by picking up a 7-6 win at Cole Field.

UWG's (20-21) offense found their rhythm again as the Wolves scored seven runs on 10 hits, propelling them to a one-run win over Georgia College and State (24-17).

Carson Crossley got the start for West Georgia and surrendered a run in the first inning, putting the Wolves in a 1-0 hole to begin.

UWG immediately got that run back in the bottom half with Patrick McCullough leading off the inning with a double before Luke Hatcher brought him home with an RBI-single.

Crossley bounced back with a scoreless second inning before his offense gave him some run support in the bottom half.

Cade Hohl got the inning started with a lead off single before Beau Brand reached on an error, putting runners on first and third with one out. Sam Ladner proceeded to give West Georgia the lead with an RBI-double before McCullough drove in Brand. Later in the inning, Ladner scored via a passed ball, putting the Wolves up 4-1, heading into the third inning.

After three innings of productive work, Crossley was relived as head coach Jeff Smith went to Brady Simpson out of the bullpen. Simpson got through the fourth inning unscathed, keeping the score at 4-1 until West Georgia added to their lead in the bottom half.

Jack Witmer got things started with a one out single, bringing up Brand who was hit by pitch. Witmer swiped third, putting runners on first and third, setting the stage for Ladner who brought Witmer home with a sacrifice fly.

Down 5-1, Georgia College and State got back within three runs after an RBI-single from Brandon Bellflower. After the RBI-single, Smith went back to his bullpen, calling on Ryan Whitener who got the final two outs to retire the side.

Whitener ran into some trouble in sixth inning as the Bobcats made it a one-run game after an RBI-double from Landon Armstrong and an RBI-single from Braedan Smith.

Coach Smith called on Ronny Piepmeier to pitch the seventh inning and the right hander surrendered two runs, giving the Bobcats their first lead of the game at 6-5.

Down to their final five outs, Witmer came through with a massive RBI-double, scoring Hohl to tie the game at six. Later in the inning, Ladner recorded a go-ahead sacrifice fly to give UWG a 7-6 lead.

Before the Wolves took the lead in the bottom of the eighth, Brendan Parks pitched the top half and remained in the game to pitch the ninth. Parks cruised through the inning, securing his second win of the season and a 7-6 win for West Georgia.

McCullough recorded a team-high three hits while Hohl and Witmer picked up two hits a piece. Ladner accumulated a game-high three RBIs, while Crossley and Parks combined for a line of 5.0 IP, 4H, 4SO, and 1 ER.

West Georgia will be back in action this weekend for a road series against Mississippi College, beginning on Friday at 6:00 PM EST.
