Wolves Drop Saturday Double Header to Chargers

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The University of West Georgia Baseball team dropped Games Two and Three of their series to the Alabama Huntsville Chargers on Saturday.

The West Georgia (18-19, 10-11 GSC) pitching staff walked 12 batters through the two games, propelling Alabama Huntsville (18-19, 6-15 GSC) to their series win.

GAME ONE: UAH 6, UWG 5

Brendan Parks got the start for the Wolves and gave up two runs in the first inning, putting UWG in a 2-0 deficit to begin.

Parks settled into the ball game, pitching a scoreless second and third inning before the Wolves got on the board.

In the bottom of the third inning, Beau Brand led off the inning with a single before Cooper Prince followed that up with a single of his own. Later in the inning, Brand scored off an error to cut West Georgia's deficit to one.

Parks struggled with command through the fourth inning but was able to get through it unscathed while the Wolves offense tied the game in the bottom half. West Georgia scored via another UAH error as an error from their shortstop Merik Carter scored Michael Rich to make it a 2-2 game.

In the top of the fifth, things began to unravel for Parks as he surrendered four walks which led to a four-run inning for the Chargers to give them a 6-2 lead.

The Wolves got a run back in the bottom half as an RBI-single from Jared Emory scored Jack Witmer, making it a 6-3 game as the game progressed to the sixth.

UWG made it a one run game in the seventh after a two-run home run from Cade Hohl, but that's all of the runs the Wolves scored throughout the rest of the game as they fell in Game Two, 6-5.

Prince recorded two hits in the game while Jack Rasmussen pitched 4.0 innings, surrendering just three hits.

GAME TWO: UAH 9, UWG 3

Will Dean got the start for West Georgia in Game Three and pitched a clean first inning before UWG struck first in the bottom half.

The Wolves scored courtesy of Alabama Huntsville's fifth error of the day as another error from their shortstop, Carter, scored Witmer who singled to begin the inning.

UWG added to their lead in the bottom of the second after Carson Mynatt rocketed an RBI-double off the wall to extend their lead to 2-0. Next up was Brand and he delivered an RBI-single, scoring Mynatt to put the Wolves up 3-0.

In the bottom half of the third, Dean ran into some trouble as two walks and a single loaded up the bases for the Chargers before Jackson Lindsey hit a grand slam to put UAH ahead, 4-3.

Alabama Huntsville added to their lead in the fourth as a two-run double from Brock Butler extended their lead to three.

The Chargers' bats remained hot in the fifth as Lindsey hit his second homer of the game to put the Wolves in a four-run deficit.

West Georgia continued to struggle at the plate while UAH added some insurance runs in the top of the seventh. The Chargers' top hitter, Merick Carter, recorded a two-run single, putting UWG in a 9-3 hole as the game progressed to the bottom half.

Down to their last three out, the Wolves went down 1-2-3 in the seventh, falling 9-3 in Game Three.

West Georgia will be back in action on Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. road matchup against Young Harris.
