CARROLLTON, Ga. - The UWG softball team fell in both ends of a Gulf South Conference doubleheader on Saturday at home, dropping all three games of this weekend's series against Alabama Huntsville.
West Georgia (16-25, 7-14 GSC) fell in the first game on Saturday by an 8-0 final and then fell in the finale 13-2 to Alabama Huntsville (29-11, 15-6) who has now won nine consecutive GSC games.
Game One: UAH 8, UWG 0
Alabama Huntsville score eight runs on eight hits in the first game of Saturday while the Wolves committed four errors defensively.Â
The Chargers scored four in the first, one in the second and third and then added two in the sixth to run-rule the Wolves.
The Wolves had six hits in the game, but failed to score, even leaving the bases loaded in the second inning.
Makayla Register led the Wolves at the plate with a pair of hits. Marissa Thompson took the loss while Elizabeth McAbee pitched four innings of relief allowing just three unearned runs.
Game Two: UAH 13, UWG 2
The Chargers never looked back after a six-run second in the series finale. The inning for UAH was highlighted by Kaylee Vaught's third home run of the series, a grand slam that stretched the lead to 6-0.
UWG did get on the board in the third on R.J. Janke's fifth home run of the season and 23rd of her career.
UAH then added four in the fourth and three in the fifth before UWG scored their second run in the bottom of the fifth.
West Georgia had five hits in the game and defensively committed three errors.
