JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - The University of West Georgia soccer team fell 1-0 to Jacksonville State on the road in their first Division I game on Thursday night.
The Wolves started off with high intensity and focus, applying pressure early in the match, and would rattle off five shots and put one on target while the Gamecocks totaled 10 shots with four on frame.
Jacksonville State got the first chance, but sophomore Siani Jones made a crucial save on JSU´s first possession of the game.
In the 34th minute, Jacksonville State managed to break through the defense, finding the back of the net to take the lead late in the first half.
In the second half, UWG remained determined, creating several opportunities, including two in the game´s final 10 minutes. In the 88th minute, Victoria Grant had an excellent chance that was past the JSU keeper, only to be headed away by a defender.
The Wolves now shift their focus to their next game against Charleston Southern, which will be their first home match, scheduled for August 15th at 2:00 PM ET.
