CARROLLTON, Ga. - The University of West Georgia women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Charleston Southern in their first home game of their historic 2024 season this afternoon.
The Wolves (0-2-0) had a challenging start as just seven minutes into the game, the Bucs broke through the defense and took an early 1-0 lead, thanks to a bicycle kick goal by Daniela Contreras.
Despite the early deficit, the Wolves continued to battle, working hard to find the right passes. After four shots in 17 minutes, Catherine Reeves finally found the back of the net in the 23rd minute with a brilliant corner kick from the left side.
However, Charleston Southern quickly responded, regaining the lead just a minute later with another successful play, making it 2-1.
In the second half, UWG made some adjustments, including giving freshman goalkeeper Avery Heeb her first collegiate appearance, during which she recorded two saves.
The game concluded with a 2-1 scoreline. UWG committed seven fouls and took five shots with three on frame, two of which were saved by the Bucs' goalkeeper. CSU committed six fouls and took six shots, with two being saved by Heeb.
The Wolves now hit the road for their next game against High Point on Thursday and will not return home until Sunday, September 22, when they host Central Arkansas for an ASUN conference matchup.
