HUNTSVILLE, Ala - The UWG soccer team fell short against Alabama A&M, losing 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.
The Wolves (0-4-0) put up a strong fight, recording 14 shots in the game, 10 of which were on target, compared to just 5 shots on goal by the Bulldogs (1-4-0).
Alabama A&M took an early lead in the 14th minute when Jasmine Perez-Acosta scored in the lower right corner, assisted by Victoria Mealing. However, just two minutes after returning from a weather delay in the first half, Lauren O'Neill came through in the clutch, scoring her first goal of the 2024 season in the 29th minute. The Wolves entered halftime with the game tied at 1-1.
In the second half, the Bulldogs struck again early, taking a 2-1 lead in the 47th minute with a goal from Anita Frederick-Sigaran. The Wolves didn't back down, and just eight minutes later, Victoria Grant equalized with a shot into the lower right corner, bringing the score to 2-2.
Unfortunately, in the 82nd minute, Taylor McNeal, assisted by Frederick-Sigaran, scored the decisive goal, securing the victory for the Bulldogs.
West Georgia will have a week to rest before hitting the road next Sunday, September 8. The Wolves will face Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL, with a 2:00 p.m. ET kickoff. Live streaming will be available on the Hornets Sports Network with a subscription.
