CARROLLTON, Ga. – The University of West Georgia women's soccer team fell just short in a 3-2 loss to North Florida on a rainy Thursday morning.
Despite the tough field conditions due to the weather, the Wolves fought hard until the final whistle, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Ospreys.
UNF struck first in the 14th minute when Kayla Bond delivered a cross into the box, which Allie Fekany finished with a right-footed shot. However, the Wolves quickly answered just 28 seconds later, leveling the score from a corner kick. Katherine Hagans connected with a pass from Ella Staub to make it 1-1.
UNF regained the lead in the 33rd minute thanks to a goal from Paige McSwigan.
Ten minutes later, Catherine Reeves tied the game again with a goal assisted by Aleyshka Orellano, marking Reeves' second goal of the season.
UNF found the back of the net one last time in the 44th minute, securing a 3-2 lead that ultimately sealed their victory.
In the early moments of the second half, the Wolves dominated play but couldn't break through. As the game neared its end, the Ospreys gained control and held on for the win. There were no additional goals in the second half.
The Wolves will look to bounce back on Sunday, September 29, when they host Jacksonville in another conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. on ESPN+ with live stats available.
