Wolves Secure First ASUN Win with 2-0 Victory Over Jacksonville

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The University of West Georgia soccer team defeated Jacksonville 2-0, securing their first ASUN conference win on Sunday afternoon at University Soccer Field.

The Wolves (2-8) started with low possession in the first half as the Dolphins took several shots. However, strong defense from Florence Pegrum, Julia Comin, Laura O'Neill, and Carolina Boston, along with key saves by goalkeeper Hanna Garrett, kept the score at 0-0.

As the second half began, UWG started to find their rhythm. In the 53rd minute, a pass from Victoria Grant found the foot of Katherine Hagans, who somehow found a way to push the ball past the Jacksonville keeper.

The Wolves elevated their play after Hagans' goal and continued pressing to extend the lead. In the 66th minute, a cleared ball from Florence Pegrum turned into a perfect pass to Campbell Taylor. Taylor sped up, broke through the defenders, and struck a right-footed shot into the left corner, making it 2-0, and gave the Wolves some cushion.

Hagans' goal would be the eighth of her career while Taylor's was the first career goal for the freshman.

Jacksonville would end the game with 10 shots, with eight on target. Hannah Garrett played phenomenally in goal, recording a career-high seven saves. UWG also recorded a team save as Caroline Boston made a heads-up play in the box to prevent a JU equalizer.

The Wolves now head to DeLand, FL, to face Stetson on October 3. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and live stats will be available. Fans can also follow along on social media at @uwgsoccer.
