West Georgia Falls 3-0 On The Road

NASHVILLE, TN - West Georgia volleyball closed out its weekend in Nashville, falling 3-0 to Lipscomb this afternoon (Oct. 26). The team returns home to host Stetson next Friday (Oct. 31) at 6 p.m.

UWG (2-21, 0-10 ASUN) battled against the Bisons (10-10, 6-4 ASUN), but big scoring runs by the hosts allowed LU to run away with a 3-0 sweep.

Middle blocker Sanai Young etched herself in the UWG history books, finishing with three blocks today to bring her career total to 352, which ranks fifth all-time at UWG. Outside hitter Molly Brunell finished with a team-high seven points.

MATCH DETAILS
After opening the game locked at two apiece, the Lipscomb offense turned it up a notch, going on a 7-1 run to take a 9-3 advantage over the Wolves while recording a stellar .800 team hitting percentage. With the Wolves finding their footing, UWG was able to cut the deficit down to 10-6 by tallying kills from Molly Brunell and Grace-Blythe Cornett. The Pack stayed within striking distance until the strong Bisons' offense began to run away with it, jumping out to a 20-11 advantage. The Wolves answered by securing points from a Young block and multiple LU attack errors, cutting the hosts' lead to 23-15. Unfortunately, the Bisons held on to win 25-17.

Carrying over the momentum of the latter part of the previous set, West Georgia looked locked in to open the second. By the time the LU held a 10-9 lead, the match had been tied seven times and the lead changed four times. With the Wolves tallying kills from Brunell and Mackenzie Yoakum, and another score off a block, UWG jumped out to a 14-11 lead, their biggest of the day. Out of the 15-point media timeout, the hosts would go on a 7-1 run to go up 20-16, forcing a UWG timeout. West Georgia battled to the very end, but was unable to overtake before LU reached 25. UWG fell 25-20.

Like the opening set, today's finale kicked off with the hosts jumping out to a 7-2 advantage. Following a timeout by the Wolves, UWG strung together a three-point scoring run, highlighted by a kill from Brunell and a block from Young and Addy Franz. Over the next few volleys, the two teams traded scores until the Wolves' offense began to stall. Going on a 12-3 run, LU's lead ballooned 22-9. The hosts held on to win 25-16.
