UWG falls to Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UWG volleyball dropped its road match 3-0 to Jacksonville University tonight (Nov. 7) in Florida.

The Wolves (2-24,0-13  ASUN) battled in the Sunshine State, even forcing JU (19-6, 10-3 ASUN) into extra points in the second set, but the top-ranked Dolphins were too much to keep up with, resulting in 25-17, 26-24 and 25-13 set wins for the hosts.

UWG was led by Molly Brunell with 11 points and 10 kills.

MATCH DETAILS
Following a slow start for the Wolves, JU jumped out to an 8-3 advantage. With Sanai Young leading the Pack early, UWG clawed their way back to being down 11-10. Answering the comeback, JU extended their lead to 18-13, but the Wolves were still fighting. Responding with a 3-1 run featuring a pair of kills by Grace-Blythe Cornett, UWG cut the hosts' advantage to 19-16. The Wolves would stall from there, leading to JU taking set one 25-17.

In the second set, the two teams went back and forth trading scores throughout the opening 20 points each squad scored. The match stayed virtually knotted up until two Jacksonville errors and a kill by Brunell gave the Wolves a 21-18 advantage. Storming back, the Dolphins were able to overtake by capitalizing on UWG attack errors and two kills. Trading blows the rest of the way, JU was able to secure a 26-24 win after tallying a point from UWG service error and a kill.

In the finale, West Georgia fell behind early and were unable to get anything substantial going. The Dolphins would go on to win 25-13 to secure a sweep over UWG and improve to 2-0 over the Wolves this season.
